GETTING FAT IN NEW YORK CITY ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You wonder why he plays for change, he seems too smart for that. He thanks you kindly for the buck you just tossed in his hat. As if in answer to your thought, he says, "This may sound silly, But I'm busy getting fat in New York City." You listen as he strums a chord then looks you in the eye. He compliments you on your suit with matching power tie. He says, "I used to look like you, all dressed in 'Uptown pretty' 'Til I started getting fat in New York City. "All my life I searched for truth and found it in myself. The quest I followed proud was nothing short of a living hell. I passed up hate, gave up greed, and found integrity, That's when I started getting fat in New York City. "Running with the pack won't get you where you need to go. Your voice within speaks clearly from beyond the status quo. Listen well and master your own capability, And discover getting fat in New York City. "You pawned your soul for peanuts just to be a Wall Street Wiz. Your boss with the corner office got much more when he sold his. Now here's a thought to ponder all throughout eternity... 'No chance in hell of getting fat in New York City'. "So you can toot your horn about your moralistic might, Your technical advantage and your economic right. Your bucks and books and affected looks won't buy you any pity, Much less help you to get fat in New York City. "You've made your life a constant struggle with your own success. Your moderations even seem to lead you to excess. A floating spirit is immune to Newton's gravity So float your spirit to be fat in New York City. "Running with the pack won't get you where you need to go. Your voice within speaks clearly from beyond the status quo. Listen well and master your own capability, And discover getting fat in New York City." You wonder why he wears a suit, he seems too smart for that. You thank him kindly for the buck he just tossed in your hat. You strum a chord and say to him, "You know this may sound silly..." Then you sing him Getting Fat in New York City. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copyright © 1995 Jim Hinde folkbone@mindspring.com
