FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FROM: LISA LOVE OCTOBER 19, 1999 912-750-8555, EXT. 108 Georgia Music Hall of Fame Announces Gram Parsons Exhibit (Macon, GA): The Georgia Music Hall of Fame will present ³Keeps Calling Me Home: A Gram Parsons Retrospective Exhibit² Nov. 5 - Dec. 31, 1999. Parsons, the Waycross-bred singer/songwriter, was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sat., Sept. 25, 1999 in the Posthumous category. The opening reception will be held on Sat., Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. in the museum¹s Macon Room. Stanley Booth, author of True Adventures of the Rolling Stones, Rythm Oil: A Journey Through the Music of the American South and Standing in the Shadows, a biography of Rolling Stone member Keith Richards, will lecture. Live performances of Parsons¹ songs will follow, featuring selected Georgia musicans, including Jon Byrd and Greta Lee (Greta Lee Band), Chuck Walston and Page Waldrop (The Vidalias), Brack Haynes (Blue Tick) and Billy Ray Herrin. Although Parsons died in 1973 at age 26, his recordings with the International Submarine Band, the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers and two solo efforts compiled a body of work that has proved amazingly durable and continues to influence generations of musicians and songwriters. He blended elements of traditional country and western with the soul of rhythm and blues and the swagger of rock and roll, dubbing it ³Cosmic American Music.² In July, Almo Sounds released Return of the Grievous Angel: A Tribute to Gram Parsons, executive produced by Emmylou Harris, Parsons¹ duet partner and protege. Artists including the Mavericks, Wilco, Elvis Costello, Beck and Lucinda Williams pay homage to the legacy of the innovative Georgia musician.
